Helena National Park
Just shy of a one-hour drive from Claravale, Helena National Park is situated 25km south east of Kalamunda, making it a straightforward drive off Brookton Highway (route 40). This National Park offers lots of things to do and see, and you’ll be keen to climb and take photos of the beautiful vistas. A must-do when visiting the park is to head for Mount Dale, which leads to one of the highest points in the Darling Scarp. To reach this spot, turn off Brookton Highway, take Ashendon Road and after about 5km, you’ll find Mount Dale Road. After about 13km, you’ll reach the lookout. Both these roads are unsealed with two wide lanes, so any car should be fine tackling the trip. Get your cameras ready because you’ll be rewarded with an exceptional 360-degree view of endless trees and natural surroundings. It’s a beautiful spot to take a few minutes and discover something so beautiful which perhaps you didn’t know was so close to home.
There are walking trails which are helpfully signed, picnic tables and clean campsites. Whether you want to challenge yourself with an energetic hike or simply would like to get in touch with nature and admire the local flora and fauna while enjoying a picnic, this is one to add to the list.
If you’re craving a sea change, pack the beach umbrella, bathers and slip, slop, slap your way to a day of sunshine and sandy feet. Just over half an hour’s drive from Claravale, you’ll be in the bustling Rockingham foreshore, where you’ll find restaurants, cafes, shops and of course, the ocean. Did we mention too that it has a dam where you can park up and walk around? For the mountain bikers, adventure enthusiasts or families who love to get out and about, why not tackle the challenging 12.6km loop trail or simply find a parking spot, have a wander and enjoy a packed lunch overlooking the dam. Sunflowers in spring, the ever-changing patterns on the water and seasonal blooming flora, this is another place which is so close to home yet you’ll feel a million miles away.
Enjoy a day out in Fremantle
Chances are, you’ve heard of Fremantle Markets, Fremantle Prison or the many eateries and food hubs in this historic port city. Many tourists new and far flock to this precinct to learn about the history and culture, immersing themselves in Freo’s beautiful streets which are so vibrant and full of surprises.
